Deepa and Jess will anchor the discussion around Deepa’s new book, Social Change Now: A Guide for Reflection and Connection (Thick Press, 2022), a roadmap for people and organizations seeking to bring about effective and sustainable social change. During the event, participants will also have a chance to map their roles within their own communities.

Deepa Iyer leads projects on solidarity and social movements at the Building Movement Project. Her first book, We Too Sing America: South Asian, Arab, Muslim, and Sikh Immigrants Shape Our Multiracial Future (The New Press, 2015), chronicles community-based histories in the wake of 9/11 and received a 2016 American Book Award. Deepa’s most recent book (2022), a guide based on the social change ecosystem map that she created, is called Social Change Now: A Guide for Reflection and Connection.

Jess Solomon is a facilitator, strategist, and storyteller with over a decade of experience in the social justice, arts, and culture ecosystem. She has mobilized resources for community cultural development in various roles and as Founder and CEO of Art in Praxis, her firm supports progressive organizations across the country in becoming sites of inspired action, creativity and care.
